What is past is just that....
Currently, I am the director of the Guitar Studies program at Methodist University, a small
private institution located in Fayetteville, NC. I hold degrees from Pembroke State University
and from Winthrop University. I also studied with Lily Afshar at the University of Memphis. I
have won a few competitions in my college days but that falls into the aforementioned past
category. (My extended bio and press material can be obtained via email at
wdsmith@methodist.edu).
I concertize throughout the region, solo appearances as well as with various chamber ensembles.
My current program can be found here.
You may have noticed the scripture that I have posted on the home page. My thoughts...
Music is a gift from the Almighty. In it we find many things; man's attempt at atonement for our
separation from God due to our sin; comfort when God speaks to us through His music. In it
we can glorify our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. In it we can give back to the One who gave us
so much. Some of our most cherished composers knew this. Bach's Six Soli for violin solo,
Beethoven's Oratorio Christus am Olberge (Christ on the Mount of Olives) are but two of
the numerous examples. If you are struggling with indecision about your spiritual welfare I urge
you to follow this link
God has given me so much. If you would like for me to share my testimony with you, please feel
free to contact me: wdsmith@methodist.edu. I would love to hear yours as well...
